Monthly Wrap-Up | June 2021

Hello everyone!

It’s finally summer! I have no real summer reading plans other than getting through my never ending TBR. My one goal might be to read more books from my neglected TBR, but where’s the fun in that?

So… I had to jump on the bandwagon and read Ice Planet Barbarians. It was a lot better than I expected, but I will not be reading the rest of the series.

I’ve been continuing my obsession with Zodiac Academy. This series has been a good replacement for my obsession with ACOTAR, so I’m not exactly sure what to do when I get to book six and have to wait for book seven, but that’s a problem for future Nadine.

During the month of June, I read 8 books and DNF 1.

So, here are some stats!

Number of pages read: 3907
Number of print books: 3
Number of e-books: 6
Favourite quote of the month:

“Because that’s what I do… I watch you and hunger for you and ache for you. It torments me like I torment you.” – Zodiac Academy: The Reckoning

<

I usually feature two books, but this month only the Zodiac Academy books stood out.

<

Zodiac Academy: The Reckoning is my favourite of the series so far. Full of magic, angst, and revenge, it will keep you turning the pages well into the night.

Five Stars

<

The Bone Maker featured a great concept and interesting magic system, but fell flat in its execution. Three Stars

Sea of Ruin is a roller coaster of emotions as Bennett is tested in every way possible before the truth is revealed. If you’re a fan of dark romance novels, Sea of Ruin will be sure to please. Three Stars

The Perfect Ruin is a slow burn thriller that left me satisfied in the end. Four Stars

Ice Planet Barbarians is exactly what you think it is. It’s a ridiculous and spicy story about aliens with large ribbed penises looking for love. Three Stars

Flames of Chaos is a terribly written book with equally terrible characters. There’s hints of a plot underneath all the crude profanity and sexual violence, but it’s not enough to even consider finishing the novel to try and find it. If you like casual sexual abuse and derogatory behaviour towards women, Flames of Chaos is for you. DNF 40%

I didn’t hate Throttled, but I didn’t love it either. Instead, Throttled is an okay sports romance with a slightly annoying main character. Three Stars

Zodiac Academy: Shadow Princess was going to be my least favourite of the series so far, until the ending. Peckham and Valenti upped the ante in a way I never thought possible. I didn’t think they would do it, but they did! Five Stars

<

Hate has a lot going for it: angry and feisty main character and incredible sexual tension. However, James doesn’t give readers enough information/answers. Full review to come! Four Stars

Have you read any of these? What did you think? What did you read in the month of April?
