Hello everyone!
Today I wanted to do a book recommendations post a la the “if you like this then you’ll like this” format. As you read from the title, this is the fantasy edition. Throughout the rest of this year into the next, I’ll be posting recommendations for the following genres: Romance and Mystery/Thriller. I may put together a post for Non-Fiction, but I’m not sure yet.
So, without further ado….
When you start a Blake Crouch novel, you know you’re in for a wild ride that will alter the way you think about time, space, memory, etc. Recursion is no exception.
The Lathe of Heaven follows George Orr (wink wink nudge nudge) as he goes to a psychotherapist, Dr. Haber, to help with his dreams. Orr’s dreams are not typical. His dreams have the ability to change reality. Thus, begins Orr’s journey to understand and control his ability as Dr. Haber forces his changes to reality.
Illuminae is a space war told through a bunch of different kinds of documents. The main character, Kady, is spitfire main character as she tackles obstacle after obstacle without flinching.
Brandon Sanderson is one of my absolute favorite authors. His writing, characters, and magic systems are second to none. You’d be hard pressed finding another author who can churn out as many high quality novels as he does. Skyward is no exception. The main character, Spensa, is energetic, brash, and an idealist.
The Final Empire is truly a masterpiece in the fantasy genre. Brandon Sanderson knows how to construct a multifaceted world, intriguing characters, and a unique magic system through accessible writing that will keep you fascinated until the end.
The Black Prism is a phenomenal novel that I would recommend to anyone. It’s full of great characters, an exciting plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and a magic system that will dazzle your imagination.
Have you read any of these? What did you think?
I definitely want to try The Lathe of Heaven, now that you’re comparing it to Recursion😁
I hope you enjoy it! It’s definitely worth reading.
Great post! The only one I’ve read is Illuminae.
Skyward should definitely be on your TBR! 😉
I think it is, but I’m not 100% sure. My TBR is huge!
I read half of these (Recursion, Black Prism and Illuminae) and I have the other half on my TBR hahah Will have to fix this ASAP! Great reccs, Nadine! 😀
Ha! What are the odds. I hope you enjoy!!
I’ve read both Illuminae and Skyward and agree that if you like one you’ll enjoy the other. I’ve also read The Final Empire and have been meaning to get to Black Prism. Thanks for reminding me!
Woot! Glad I could help. The Black Prism is fantastic. Hope you enjoy 🙂
Love this post! I haven’t read Recursion yet but I think it’s on the TBR. I love Crouch. And The Lathes of Heaven is definitely already on my TBR. I have read Illuminae. I think I enjoy the crazy formatting more than anything else but I’ll keep Skyward in mind too!
Crouch is incredible. I need to read more of his work.
The sequel to Skyward is coming out this month 😉
