What is more important? Friendship, loyalty or love?
Colleen Hoover and Griffin Peterson collaborate once again to bring fans of Maybe Someday back into the musical world of Ridge and Sydney.
And Maggie.
And Warren and Bridgette.

This is a free follow-up to the NYT bestselling novel, Maybe Someday. It should be read after Maybe Someday and the novella spinoff, Maybe Not in the series.

Maybe Someday is easily one of my favorite Colleen Hoover novels, though that’s not saying much since I’ve LOVED everything she’s written. So when I discovered Maybe Now I couldn’t have been happier. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy Maybe Now nearly as much as its predecessor.

Maybe Now is told from three different perspectives: Sydney, Ridge, Maggie, and Jake. As much as I liked being able to read from Maggie’s perspective, I didn’t enjoy her chapters as much as either Sydney and Ridge’s chapters. Maybe I’m a horrible person, but I never really liked Maggie. She never read as a sympathetic character because she comes off as selfish most of the time. Am I being too harsh on Maggie? Probably. #SorryNotSorry

What Maybe Now lacked was direction. Maybe Now reads like a continuation of the story with no real goal or end in mind. The ending of Maybe Now isn’t really an ending since it reads as more of a stopping point. I usually never get hung up on suspension of disbelief, but, boy, was that ending unbelievable and not in a good way.

Everything about Maybe Now is too easy and contrived. Nothing really feels organic and people aren’t that clean when it comes to their emotions. I guess my expectations were too high since Hoover has never let me down.

Overall, Maybe Now is an okay sequel to Maybe Someday. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Also, my review is a lot more negative than I wanted it to be since I did rate the novel four stars. I had no trouble finishing the book and I read it relatively quickly, so I guess it couldn’t have been that bad!

  1. I’m wondering if the lack of direction has something to do with it being a Watt Padd story? It’s typically a platform for serial fiction. So I can see how an author might login and just write with no real end goal in mind.
