Best Books of 2018

Happy Christmas Eve everyone!

I can’t believe 2018 is coming to a close. During 2018 I was fortunate enough to be able to read 133 books, which totals to 46,785 pages! I read a lot of amazing books and a lot of shitty ones.

My list of disappointing books of 2018 is forthcoming!

Foundryside

Foundryside is everything you could want from a fantasy novel and more. Robert Jackson Bennett has created an expansive world and an innovative magic system with characters that brighten each page they’re on.

skyward

Brandon Sanderson is one of my absolute favorite authors. His writing, characters, and magic systems are second to none. You’d be hard pressed finding another author who can churn out as many high quality novels as he does. Skyward is no exception.

the black prism

The Black Prism is a phenomenal novel that I would recommend to anyone. It’s full of great characters, an exciting plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat, and a magic system that will dazzle your imagination.

Sins of Empire is one fantasy novel not to be missed. Weighing in at 624 pages, Sins of Empire seems like a big commitment, but it’s not enough time with these compelling characters, fast paced plot, and explosive world that will leave readers gasping for more.
I read Wrath of Empire in three days. I was so obsessed with it that it put me in a book hangover. I’m desperate to find out what happens next and spend more time with these characters.

senlin ascends

Senlin Ascends is an absolute jem of a novel. Steam punk fantasy combined with darker tones create a magical atmosphere on the surface with something more sinister lurking beneath.

into the drowning deep

Into the Drowning Deep is a wicked smart science fiction horror story about the discovery of mermaids. Grant takes a scientific approach to this story, thus creating a unique novel that is sure to haunt your dreams.

Love Me with Lies is an incredible trilogy that I can’t believe it took me this long to read. If you’re looking to be gutted emotionally, look no further because Fisher destroy your heart, put it back together, only to destroy it again.

inseparable

Inseparable is a mentally and emotionally draining novel. If you’re looking for a story that will suck you in then break your heart in a million pieces then break it some more, Inseparable is for you.
I also wanted to give honourable mentions to Davis’ When Forever Changes and Surviving Amber Springs.

chasing river

Chasing River is the best of this companion series so far. I cannot believe its taken me this long to read them since I’ve always been a fan of Tucker’s work. I would recommend reading the previous novels first even though it’s a companion series, though it’s not required.

the good daughter

The Good Daughter is a deliciously slow mystery that marinades its characters to perfection. Though The Good Daughter is a mystery, at its core it’s a story about family and forgiveness.
