Monthly Wrap-Up | July 2018

Hello everyone and welcome to my July 2018 wrap-up! I can’t believe it’s already the end of July! Where is the year going? During the month of July, I read 10 books and there were all pretty great!

The first two books are the best books I read this month from two very different genres then the rest are in the order I read them. A lot of these reviews are scheduled to release later in the month, so the links I provided are to my reviews posted on Goodreads.

Best Books of the Month 1

senlin ascends

Senlin Ascends is an absolute jem of a novel. Steam punk fantasy combined with darker tones create a magical atmosphere on the surface with something more sinister lurking beneath. Senlin Ascends is probably one the best books I’ve read so far this year.

not that bad

Not That Bad: Dispatches From Rape Culture is everything you’d expect from Roxane Gay. It’s powerful, raw, insightful, and inclusive. Nothing is off limits in this anthology. Rape, assault, and harassment are tackled head-on without apology and without delicacy.

everything else 1

Semiosis is a truly unique first contact story. From the plot to the format it’s written in, it will keep you on your toes while making you second-guess every thought you have.4star_Fotor

Tell Me No Lies is a disappointment after the almost flawless opening novel.
3 star

Redemption’s Blade is an interesting enough fantasy story that includes compelling characters and an engaging world, if you have the patience to wait for the information.3 star

The Cruel Prince is one of those rare young adult fantasy novels that delivers on all fronts. The Cruel Prince is full of compelling characters, robust world building, and an intriguing political plot full of twists and turns.5 star

Pieces of Her is an absolute bomb of a story whether you’re a seasoned Slaughter fan or new to her writing. Pieces of Her will wow you with its mystery and keep you reading because of the character work.4star_Fotor

The Space Between was a surprisingly great read. It’s a feel good mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat.4star_Fotor

Jackal is a complete and utter disappointment after the compelling dystopian romance that was Folsom.two star

Becoming Rain is a thrilling and emotional romance between an undercover cop and her target.4.5 stars

I started a book recommendation series that will release every two weeks. My first post, Non-Fiction book recommendations went up last month, so check it out!

What did you read this month? What was your favourite book of the month?

  1. You had a great reading month. The Cruel Prince is so good – I loved it. Redemption’s Blade – felt similar to you. Semiosis wasn’t what I was expecting but I also enjoyed it. Senlin Ascends – I need to read that book soon.
