Best Books of 2016

These are my picks for the best books of 2016. They’re in no particular order and I didn’t include any books I reread. 2016 was a great reading year! I managed to read a lot more books than I did last year and I read a lot more books out of my comfort zone.

Did any of these book make your list? Let me know in the comments! I hope your year was just as good as mine, if not better. Cheers to the great reads of 2016!

Keep an eye out for my disappointing books of 2016 coming January 2, 2017!

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

This book stuck with me throughout the entire year. I read this back in March and despite my relatively low star rating I had to include it on this list because I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Problem with Forever is Jennifer L. Armentrout at her best. She crafted such a beautiful Young Adult romance with captivating characters and chemistry that flies off the pages. It is a Young Adult romance, so don’t go into this thinking it’s New Adult.

What We Saw by Aaron Hartlzer

This book is probably one of the most important books on my list. It’s incredibly relevant and it will make you think, it will disgust you, and it will motivate you. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Story of your Life by Ted Chiang

This short story changed the way I perceive language and the world. It’s a story that stayed with me since the summer, so I highly recommend that everyone read it. It’s interesting, thought provoking, and mind blowing!

January First by Michael Schofeild

January First is a heartbreaking story about mental illness and the consequences it has for everyone involved. Janni and her family’s story is an important one. It’s a story that will change your perspective on mental illness by teaching you empathy rather than sympathy. It’s a story that will show you what it takes, both emotionally and physically, to support someone with mental illness.

Faithful by Alice Hoffman

A heartbreakingly beautiful coming of age story that will wreck you in ways you didn’t know was possible from beginning to end. Shelby’s transition is inspiring, frustrating, and real. Her struggle with guilt and depression will resonate with anyone who’s suffered and offers a story to aspire to.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

AHHHHHHHHHHH! Best Shadowhunter book to date!

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! A masterpiece.

Five Ways to Fall by K.A. Tucker

A swoon worthy book boyfriend and a spitfire main character who believes revenge is a dish best served cold working at a law firm. Five Ways to Fall is a fantastic edition to this companion series.

Leviathan Wakes (The Expanse series) by James S A Corey

This series is one of the best series I’ve ever read. It has a variety of complex, well developed characters that are put in crazy, action packed situations. Some have called this the A Song of Ice and Fire of Science Fiction and I can’t help but agree. If you’re looking for an exciting series to sink your teeth into, look no further. The Expanse has it all!

Also, check out the tv show adaptation. Season two is premiering February 1!
