If you liked Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire than you’ll love this book.
Trigger warning: rape
Bad Things follows Danika, a 21-year-old student working as a live in nanny. Danika sticks to her routine and is always focused on the future and thinking two steps ahead until she meets Tristan. Tristan lives in the moment without regard to the future. He’s the complete opposite of Danika, but their instant attraction cannot be denied. Bad Things are sure to happen.
Danika and Tristan are a train wreck waiting to happen and that’s what makes this book and their relationships so engaging and demanding. Their chemistry is so intense it oozes off the pages. There were many moments throughout the book that my stomach actually dropped because their connection was so overwhelming and palpable. I almost read this book in one sitting because it was all consuming. However, relationships like these are often fraught with jealousy, rage, and mistrust. Bad Things is no exception. Their relationship is a classic example of what happens when jealousy and rage play a large role in a relationship, but it’s also what makes reading this book all consuming.
The biggest issue I had with Bad Things is Danika’s past. SPOILERS See below if you’d like to read. It’s abhorrent and the reason this book didn’t receive a 5 star rating.
Overall, Bad Things is an all consuming romance about an unhealthy relationship. It’s fun, exciting, and sexy. It had me swooning and crying. If you’re looking for a similar novel to Beautiful Disaster than look no further. However, this book is much more mature than Beautiful Disaster.

Her being raped adds absolutely nothing to the plot and is only used to justify her sex life. Tristan being the only person to satisfy her sexually (because of her rape) is disgusting. Rape should never be used as a way to manipulate characters.
